Introduction

“Siddur” comes from the Hebrew root Samech-Dalet-Resh which means “order.” A siddur is a prayer-book that provides teaching or suggestions on prayer, to give help to those who are in need of such aids. A siddur can also be a journal where one keeps a record of one’s prayers and the answers from God.
A mahzor is a type of siddur, or prayer book. You may be familiar with the Book of Common Prayer? It’s rather like that; a guide containing specific prayers, liturgies, and piyyutim (liturgical poems) for special occasions like the various high holy days.
The difference between a siddur and a mahzor is that the siddur includes the daily prayers and blessings that one may recite on week days and Shabbat.
Adonaists observe the seven feasts found in Leviticus 23. This leads to becoming a people who are very aware of the flow of times and seasons. So the Adonaic siddur presents its material chronologically. The siddur helps us keep track of where we are in the year and helps ensure that we read the Scriptures, pray and meditate in a regular, disciplined manner.
As Daniel prayed three times a day (Daniel 6:10), so the siddur offers the possibility of praying thrice daily. You will find morning prayers (tefillat shacharit), afternoon prayers (tefillat minch’ah), and evening prayers (tefillat ma’ariv). You will also find a prayer for bedtime, to recognize the sovereignty of the Lord God over the events of your day and to commit yourself to His keeping even while you sleep. That prayer is called the Keri’at Shemah al hamitah (the bedtime Shema).
This siddur offers prayers for ordinary days (yom khol), sacred days (yom tov), festivals (mo’adim), and other (musaf which means additional) special events like weddings, baptisms, dedications, and deaths.
Many of the prayers and/or scriptural readings are put to music which goes along with the admonition to “sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to each other; sing to the Lord and make music in your heart to him; always give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah (Ephesians 5:19-20 CJB).
There is nothing new under the sun so why re-invent the wheel? I lean heavily on many ancient prayers and blessings. Yet while I try to learn from my betters, I also recognize that many elements of Judaic liturgy that are either unscriptural, not truly songs or poems of worship (such as those that deal with Aliyah), or contain curses against non-Judaizers. For obvious reasons, I will either completely ignore those or will modify them sufficiently that they become suitable for our purpose here.
Shabbat begins at the onset of evening so you will notice that its suggestions being with the lighting of candles. Hashem never ordered the lighting of candles but they give a festive glow to the event and so we enjoy them. However, since there is a prohibition against lighting fires on the Sabbath, we generally light the candles ten or fifteen minutes before the Shabbat prayers begin, ensuring that we don’t offend against that mitzvah or our unsaved Jewish friends.
All holidays also begin at sundown and continue to the next sundown. Though the Gentile calendar begins with January 1, we will not, in obedience to Hashem’s instruction.
This siddur (arguably a liturgical document) will thus begin with the beginning of the Adonaic liturgical year – the celebration of Pesach’.

The appropriate use of Hebrew
The Scriptures teach that true worship must be done in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23). They further insist that it must be based on one’s understanding.
Therefore, the origin and significance of the various elements will at times be discussed so that their meaning can be more easily grasped. As new members join our congregation this will help them get quickly acclimated to our unique worship style. This will also help those who wish to modify various elements or entire services to do so in an intelligent manner. Also, translations and transliterations will be made available throughout the siddur.
I encourage you to emphasize English in your public worship, whether you choose to do so in your private worship or not. As Paul said,
We don’t want guests coming away from our services thinking that the only way they could ever join would be to learn Hebrew. The primary purpose of the corporate worship service is to be exhortation, prophecy, and the spreading of the Gospel. All these preclude speaking in a language that is unknown to the hearers, even if that language is as blessed a language as Hebrew.
- Romans 10:14 HCSB But how can they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe without hearing about Him? And how can they hear without a preacher?

Understanding Shabbat
Shabbat begins at dusk on the sixth day of every week. The practice of counting days as beginning in the evening, rather than the Gentile manner of beginning in the morning is based on the way Adonai counts days in the very first chapter of Genesis.
The practice of resting on the seventh day is equally ancient.
You may ask, “Why do you believe that something God did necessarily means you must too?” Among many other reasons it is because the Shabbat is the only day that is specifically enshrined in the Aseret ha Devarim– The Decalogue; the Ten Commandments that were written on two stone tablets (luch’ot).
Do we believe that only nine of the commandments still apply? I think not. Besides, Yeshua so identified with the Shabbat that He referred to Himself as its Master (Matthew 12:8).
We believe that Adonai’s promise as given to the prophet Isaiah is still available.
The word “Shabbat” comes from the root Shin-Beit-Tav, which means to cease, end, or come to a rest. Besides generally resting and dedicating ones’ self to meditating on and worshiping the Lord God, there are only two negative prohibitions: lighting fires (Exodus 35:3) and carrying loads (Jeremiah 17:21-22). All the other rules that are generally associated with the Judaic practices were added by rabbinical teachers and Yeshua argued against them (Matthew 23:4-7).
Shabbat is a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time with our family. We pray, worship, fellowship over games and meals and generally rest. However, like anything else in life that’s truly worthwhile, it takes planning and work to achieve.
- Genesis 1:5 HCSB God called the light "day," and He called the darkness "night." Evening came, and then morning: the first day.
The practice of resting on the seventh day is equally ancient.
- Genesis 2:2-3 HCSB By the seventh day, God completed His work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work that He had done. (3) God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from His work of creation.

- Exodus 20:8-11 HCSB Remember to dedicate the Sabbath day: (9) You are to labor six days and do all your work, (10) but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. You must not do any work--you, your son or daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the foreigner who is within your gates. (11) For the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days; then He rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and declared it holy.

- Isaiah 58:13-14 HCSB "If you keep from desecrating the Sabbath, from doing whatever you want on My holy day; if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the holy day of the LORD honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, seeking your own pleasure, or talking too much; (14) then you will delight yourself in the LORD, and I will make you ride over the heights of the land, and let you enjoy the heritage of your father Jacob." For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

Preparing for Shabbat

Woman Sweeping by Eduoard Vuillard
Generally, we begin preparing for Shabbat as early in the afternoon as possible. We get home from school and everyone does a thorough cleaning of the house. We won’t do any chores (other than caring for animals; Luke 13:15) the following day so if it’s going to be done it must be at this point. We take showers and baths earlier than normal so as to approach the Lord’s Day of rest respectfully. The table is set a little fancier than other days too with candles and flowers if possible.
Not only the Shabbat meal but the meals for the next day must be ready so we must either have food cooking in the slow cooker for the next day or we plan on eating cereals, breads, salads, raw fruits and vegetables or cold cuts (for the carnivores among us!).
When we can, we make two loaves of ch’allah bread, following the biblical practice (Numbers 15:20-21) of giving an olive sized piece of dough to God. That small piece is burnt in recognition that we receive our daily bread from Yahweh Yireh our great provider.
Why do we make two loaves? Symbolically, they represent the double portion of manna that Hashem always provided for us in the wilderness (Exodus 16:29). Practically, it provides a second loaf to eat the following day when we don’t bake.

Shabbat Erev - Initiating Shabbat

Lighting the Shabbat Candles by Raphael Nouril
Shabbat checklist:
· Two candles and candlesticks
· Matches
· Wine and/or sparkling grape juice
· Shabbat cups
· Two loaves of ch’allah bread (if you can; one will do)
· Good cutting board
· Bread cloth
· Scarves for the women
We place two candles and the two loaves on the table. We set the table with good dishes and whatever the matron of the house has decided is best for us to eat! Before sundown, my wife puts on a head scarf (1 Corinthians 11:5) to indicate her submission to God’s order (1 Corinthians 11:10). She covers her eyes for a moment, then waves her hands three times in a circling motion around the candles as if to draw their light and purity into herself. Then she prays:
Lighting of the candles
Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheynu melech ha’olam, m’kadeish ha Shabbat. Amein.
Blessed are you, Lord God, King of the universe, who sanctifies the Shabbat. Amen.
Yeshua said that He is the Light of the World. Whoever follows Him shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life (John 8:12). Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven (Matthew 5:16).
Sanctification of Shabbat – from Genesis 2:3
On the seventh day God rested. He blessed this day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all His work of creating. Blessed are you, O Lord our God, who makes the Sabbath holy.
Blessing on the family – from Numbers 6:24-27
May the Lord bless you and protect you;
May the Lord make His face shine on you; and be gracious to you;
May the Lord look with favor on you and give you peace.
May He put His name upon you and bless you.
Blessing on the wife – from Proverbs 31
Who can find a capable wife? She is far more precious than jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will not lack anything good.
She rewards him with good, not evil, all the days of her life.
Many women are capable, but you surpass them all.
Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised.
Blessing on the husband – from Psalm 1
How happy is the man who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path of sinners, or join a group of mockers!
Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night.
He is like a tree planted beside streams of water that bears its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
The Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.

HaMotzi – the blessing over the bread
Pass around the precut bread. (If you have two loaves) Uncover the bread, lift the two loaves and explain:
Two loaves are used to remind us that while we wandered in the wilderness our God gave us a double portion of manna on the sixth day so that we could rest on Shabbat.
Put one loaf down and keep holding the second one up, saying:
As this loaf was laid down, covered by a cloth, then uncovered and raised, so our Messiah was laid in the earth and covered with a cloth (Luke 23:53). Then He set aside His grave clothes (Luke 24:12) and raised from the dead, was seen by many witnesses and exalted on high. Let this bread remind you of Yeshua, the Bread of Life (John 6:35, 48, 51).
Then pray: (If you don’t have two loaves simply pray this part)
Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheynu melech ha’olam, hamotzi lech’em min ha’aretz. Todah al Yeshua, Lech’em ha Ch’aim.
Blessed are you, Lord God, King of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth. Thank you for Yeshua, the Bread of Life.

Kiddush - the blessing over the wine
Pour everyone’s drink and pray,
Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheynu melech ha’olam, borey p’ri hagafen. Todah al vadam Yeshua.
Blessed are you, Lord God, King of the universe, who creates the fruit of the vine. Thank you for the blood of Yeshua.
Everyone raises their glasses to each other and exclaims “L’chaim!” which means “to life!”

Birkat HaMazon - the blessing after the meal
This blessing is based on Deuteronomy 8:10.
Blessed are you, Lord God, King of the universe, who sustains and upholds all things by the word of your mouth. You provide for all your creatures and your mercy is everlasting.
Through your abundant goodness we lack nothing we need. May your provision continue for us forever, for the sake of your great name.
You sustain all, do good to all and provide for all. Blessed are you Lord God, King of the universe.

Shabbat Day
Shabbat Morning
We encourage spending some time in the Word, even before breakfast. The time is quiet, everyone is rested, and we can really focus on the fact that Adonai is more important even than our food!
After breakfast, we ensure that our animals are cared for and then the rest of the morning is ours to enjoy.
After breakfast, we ensure that our animals are cared for and then the rest of the morning is ours to enjoy.
Se'udah Sheni - Shabbat lunch
This is based on Exodus 31:13 and Ezekiel 20:20
Sit at the table and recite:
Surely Hashem’s Sabbaths we shall keep. It is a sign between us and the Lord through our generations, so that we may know that He is the Lord who sanctifies us. We shall keep the Sabbath holy.
If you choose to eat some of the left-over ch’allah you may pray the HaMotzi.
If you choose to drink some of the wine you may pray the Kiddush.
After the meal you may pray the Birkat HaMazon.

Havdalah - the close of Shabbat
Havdalah is a man-made short ceremony to formally mark the end of the Shabbat. “Havdalah” literally means “separation” or “distinction”. Havdalah should occur well after sundown so that the prohibition against lighting fires will not be transgressed.
Havdalah Checklist:
· Havdalah candle
· Matches/lighter
· B’samin: Box of spices (cinnamon and cloves)
· Wine or sparkling grape juice
· Havdalah cup and saucer
· Shabbat cups
· Scarves for the ladies
Call to Havdalah – portions from Isaiah, the Psalms and Esther
Recite:
Behold, God is our deliverer, our strength and our stronghold. We trust in Him, and are not afraid. With joy shall we draw water from the wells of salvation. Your blessing is on Your people. Let the King of Kings answer when we call upon Him. We shall lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.
First blessing – Fire
Light the Havdalah candle. Pray:
Baruch atah, Adonai Eloheynu melech ha-olam borei m’orei ha-aish.
Blessed are You, Lord God, King of the universe, who creates the light of fire.
Second blessing – Wine
Fill the Havdalah goblet, which is set on a saucer and fill the cup till it overflows into the saucer, while reciting Psalm 116:13:
We will take the cup of salvation and worship the LORD.
Explain:
The extra wine in the saucer represents God’s overflowing blessings and the blood of Yeshua, the Anointed One.
Fill the other glasses, then pray the Kiddush:
Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheynu melech ha’olam, borey p’ri hagafen. Todah al vadam Yeshua.
Blessed are you, Lord God, King of the universe, who creates the fruit of the vine. Thank you for the blood of Yeshua.
Everyone says “Amen!” They raise their glasses to each other and exclaim “L’Ch’aim!” and take a drink.
Third blessing – Spices
Shake the b’samin box, smell it, then begin handing it around so that each one may in turn smell the spices. Explain:
Shabbat, God’s invitation to rest and d’vekut, should be a sweet fragrance that we should remember and anticipate throughout the week.
Once everyone has had a chance to smell the spices, pray:
Baruch atah Adonai Eloheynu melech ha’olam, borey minei b’samin.
Blessed are You, Lord God, King of the universe, Who creates a variety of spices.
Fourth blessing – Bread
Take a piece of bread (whether left over from the ch’allah or another loaf). Pass the bread around and let everyone takes a small piece to eat. Pray the HaMotzi.
Fifth blessing – Light of the World
Encourage everyone hold their hands out to the candles then say:
Each of us should examine our hands by holding them up to the light of the Word of God. Do we have clean hands and hearts before God as we begin this week? Let this light be imprinted in our minds so that we may take the Sabbath light with us throughout the week; throughout the world; wherever we may go. Let us be light to those enshrouded by darkness. As Yeshua commanded us, “Let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
Then pray,
Baruch atah, Adonai Eloheynu melech ha-olam, asher kidshanu b’mitzvotav l’hayot ore l’goyim v’natan-lanu Yeshua HaMashiach m’skeech’aynu ha-Ore la-olam.
Blessed are You, Lord God, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us by your commandments and commanded us to be a light to the nations. Thank you for Messiah Yeshua, the Light of the world.
Sixth blessing – Separation
Say:
We have seen the fire, tasted wine, smelled the spices, felt the flame and heard God’s Word. We consecrate our five senses to Him as we go into this new week. May we carry the fragrance of the Holy Spirit’s presence into the coming week. Baruch atah Adonai Eloheynu melech ha-olam, ha-mavdil hayn kdesh l’chol, bayn or l’choshech’, bay Yisrael la-amim, bayn yom ha-sh’vi’I l’shayset y’may ha-maseh. Baruch atah Adonai, ha’mavdil bayn kodesh ‘lchol. Amein.
Blessed are You, Lord God, King of the universe, who distinguishes between the sacred and the secular, between light and dark, between Israel and the nations, between the seventh day and the six days of work. Blessed are You, Lord God, who distinguishes between the sacred and the secular.
Conclude by singing a chorus. Choose someone to extinguish the Havdalah candle in the overflowing wine. Then everyone says “Shavua Tov!” which means “Have a good week!”

Tefillat Shach’arit - Morning Prayer
Give ear to my words, Adonai, consider my inmost thoughts. Listen to my cry for help, my king and my God, for I pray to you. Adonai, in the morning you will hear my voice; in the morning I lay my needs before you and wait expectantly. For you are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; evil cannot remain with you. Those who brag cannot stand before your eyes, you hate all who do evil, you destroy those who tell lies. Adonai detests men of blood and deceivers, but I can enter your house because of your great grace and love; I will bow down toward your holy temple in reverence of you. —from Psalm 5:2-7
Set a guard, Adonai, over my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. Don’t let my heart turn to anything evil or allow me to act wickedly with men who are evildoers; keep me from eating their delicacies. Let the righteous strike me, let him correct me; it will be an act of love. Let my head not refuse such choice oil... – from Psalm 141:3-5
I will follow the path of integrity; when will you come to me? I will run my life with a sincere heart inside my own house. I will not allow before my eyes any shameful thing. I hate those who act crookedly; what they do does not attract me. Deviousness will depart from me; I will not tolerate evil. If someone slanders another in secret, I will cut him off. Haughty eyes and proud hearts I cannot abide. I look to the faithful of the land, so that they can be my companions; those who live lives of integrity can be servants of mine. No deceitful person can live in my house; no liar can be my advisor. Every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, cutting off all evildoers from the city of Adonai. – from Psalm 101:2-8

Prayer before Bible study – Psalm 119:18, 27, 33-34
Open my eyes so that I may see wonderful things in Your law. Help me to understand the meaning of your precepts so that I can meditate on Your wonders. Teach me, Lord, the meaning of Your statutes, and I will always keep them. Help me to understand your instruction, and I will obey it, and follow it with all of my heart.
Bedtime Shema
Blessed are You, Hashem, our God, KING of the universe, who casts the bonds of sleep upon my eyes and slumber upon my eyelids. May my ideas, bad dreams, and bad notions not confound me. (Proverbs 3:24
May it be Your will, Hashem, my God and the God of my forefathers, that You lay me down to sleep in peace and rise me erect in peace. (Psalm 3:5)
Master of the universe, I hereby forgive anyone who angered or antagonized me or who sinned against me — whether against my body, my property, my honor, or against anything of mine; whether he did so accidentally, willfully, carelessly, or purposely; whether through speech, deed, thought, or notion. May no man be punished because of me. (Matthew 6:12-15; 18:35; Mark 11:25-26)
May I sin no more. Whatever sins I have done before You, may You blot out in Your abundant mercies. May the expressions of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart find favor before You, Hashem, my Rock and my Redeemer. (Psalm 19:15)
Hear, O Israel: Yahweh is our God, Yahweh, the One and Only. You shall love Yahweh Elohim, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your resources. Let these matters be upon my heart. Lord God, I will teach this thoroughly to my children and speak of Your ways while I sit in my home, while I walk on the way, when I retire and when I arise. I will bind Your commands as a sign upon my arm and let them be tefillin between my eyes. I will write them on the doorposts of my house and upon my gates (Deuteronomy 6:4-9).
May the pleasantness of my Lord, our God, be upon my house — may He establish my family’s handiwork for us (Psalm 90:17).
May I never fail to have one of my household standing before the Lord to serve Him (Jeremiah 35:19). Blessed is the Name of His glorious kingdom for all eternity.

Rosh Chodesh - the New Moon
The following are ideas on ways to observe the New Moon.
Before sunset, gather with family or friends with snacks and Bibles. Read some significant passages like:
Genesis 1:14-19
Numbers 10:10
Numbers 28:111-15
1 Samuel 20:5, 18, 24-27
2 Kings 4:22-23
1 Chronicles 23:30-31
2 Chronicles 2:4
2 Chronicles 31:3
Ezra 3:5-6
Nehemiah 10:32-33
Psalm 81:1-4
Isaiah 66:23
Ezekiel 46:1-3, 6
Amos 8:4-5
Colossians 2:16-17
Consider praying the Hallel, the hallelujah psalms that are recited at all joyous occasions. These include: Psalm 113-118, 136.
Reading
When you look to the heavens and see the sun, moon, and stars--all the array of heaven--do not be led astray to bow down and worship them. The LORD your God has provided them for all people everywhere under heaven.
God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night. They will serve as signs for festivals and for days and years. He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows when to set.
Therefore sing for joy to God our strength; shout in triumph to the God of Jacob. Lift up a song--play the tambourine, the melodious lyre, and the harp. Blow the horn during the new moon and during the full moon, on the day of our feast. For this is a statute for Israel, a judgment of the God of Jacob. He set it up as an ordinance for Joseph when He went throughout the land of Egypt.
This is what the LORD says: The One who gives the sun for light by day, the fixed order of moon and stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea and makes its waves roar--the LORD of Hosts is His name:
“If this fixed order departs from My presence--this is the LORD's declaration--then also Israel's descendants will cease to be a nation before Me forever. For just as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, will endure before Me"--the LORD's declaration--"so will your offspring and your name endure. All mankind will come to worship Me, from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another," says the LORD.
From Deuteronomy 4:19; Genesis 1:14; Psalm 104:19; Psalm 81:1-5; Jeremiah 31:35-36; Isaiah 66:22-23
Then pray the Kiddush Levanah which goes like this:
Blessed are you, O Lord our God, King of the Universe, who created the heavens by your command. You subjected them to fixed laws and time, so that they would not deviate from their set function. They are happy to do the will of their Creator, the true Author of Life, whose achievement is truth.
You ordered the moon to renew itself as a glorious crown over those You sustained from birth, who likewise will be resurrected to worship Your glorious majesty. Blessed are You, O Lord, who renews the month. Blessed by your omnipotent Creator, o moon!

Ch’anukkat ha Bayit - Dedication of a home/mezuzah
Read Deuteronomy 6:1-9; 11:13-21.
Moshe said, "This is the command--the statutes and ordinances--the LORD your God has instructed me to teach you, so that you may follow them in the land you are about to enter and possess. Do this so that you may fear the LORD your God all the days of your life by keeping all His statutes and commands I am giving you, your son, and your grandson, and so that you may have a long life.
Listen, Israel, and be careful to follow them, so that you may prosper and multiply greatly, because the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you a land flowing with milk and honey.
Listen, Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One. Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
If you carefully obey My commands I am giving you today, to love the LORD your God and worship Him with all your heart and all your soul:
I will provide rain for your land in season, the early and late rains, and you will harvest your grain, new wine, and oil.
I will provide grass in your fields for your livestock. You will eat and be satisfied.
Be careful that you are not enticed to turn aside, worship, and bow down to other gods. Then the LORD's anger will burn against you. He will close the sky, and there will be no rain; the land will not yield its produce, and you will perish quickly from the good land the LORD is giving you.
Impress these words of Mine on your hearts and souls, bind them as a sign on your hands, and let them be a symbol on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, Then say: Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheynu Melech ha’olam, asher kidshanu b’mitzvotav v’tzivanu likbo-a mezuzah.
Blessed are You, Adonai our God, King of the universe, Who sanctifies us with holy commandments and commands us to affix the mezuzah.
May this threshold be a boundary between the powers of the air and those who enter.
May this home be a meeting place of love and joy and truth; a shield against all wickedness and evil.
Attach the mezuzah, then say:
Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheynu Melech ha’olam, sheheh ch’eyanu, v’ki y’manu, v’higianu, laz’man hazeh.
Blessed are You, Adonai our God, King of the universe: for giving us life, sustaining and enabling us to reach this moment in time.

Blessings for a home
Luke 10:5-6 HCSB Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this household.' (6) If a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.
May this threshold be a boundary between the powers of the air and those who enter.
May this home be a meeting place of love and joy and truth; a shield against all wickedness and evil.
May this home be a place of happiness and health, of contentment, generosity and hope; a home of creativity and kindness, may those who visit and those who live here know only blessing and peace.
I pray this dwelling, O God, by You may be blest;
And that each one who is here this night does rest.

Amidah - the standing prayer
This is my rendition of the Amidah (tefilat ha amidah; the standing prayer) also sometimes called the Shmoneh Esreh (“the eighteen” in reference to the original number of blessings). It’s what I call a “work horse” prayer. I use it all the time. I pray it on Shabbat, Rosh Chodesh (New Moon), festivals or after my devotional Scripture reading.
Help me God to pray. When I call upon the Lord, I will give glory to our God. Open my mouth, O Lord, and my lips will proclaim Your praise.
Blessed are you Adonai our God, God of our fathers and mothers:
God of Avraham,
God of Yitzchak,
God of Ya’akov,
God of Sarah,
God of Rivkah,
God of Rachel,
God of Lei’ah.
You are God - great, mighty, and awesome – God supreme Who repays acts of faithkeeping. You graciously remember the pious deeds of our ancestors. Owner of all, You remember ancestral faithfulness, lovingly bringing redemption to their children’s children for Your Name’s sake.
You are God - great, mighty, awesome, exalted God who bestows lovingkindness. Creator of all, You have sent a Redeemer to their children’s children because of Your loving nature.
You are God - Monarch passionate for life. Your might, O Lord, is boundless.
You support the falling, heal the ailing, free the fettered.
Your lovingkindness sustains the living;

Prayer for Rain
O God, in Whom we live and move, and have our being, grant us rain, in due abundance, that, being sufficiently helped with temporal, we may the more confidently seek after eternal gifts. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Praying the Scriptures
1 John 5:14-15 HCSB Now this is the confidence we have before Him: whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. (15) And if we know that He hears whatever we ask, we know that we have what we have asked Him for.
I am not a great prayer warrior. I often lack faith. Worse yet – I sometimes openly rebel to the will of God. I struggle with my sin nature and am known to fall.
I am not a master of words. Finding the right word – the one that not only has the correct meaning but also the appropriate flavor – is a challenging safari.
I do however have a strong desire to know God and to be a righteous man. I want to pray powerful prayers that are clearly and miraculously answered. I want to see God work in my life and in the lives of others. I yearn to see the kind of revival seen by my forefathers.
Jesus promised that if we asked anything according to His will, He would hear us (1 John 5:14). If He hears us then we already possess the answer to our prayers. Therefore the “trick” to answered prayer (if you’ll pardon the crass way of putting it) is learning to determine God’s will and getting on board. It’s thinking God’s thoughts after Him; Hearing God’s Word and repeating it back to Him. I believe firmly that the most effective prayers are those that closely mirror the Scriptures.
The other means to answered prayer is clearly stated in: 1 John 3:22 “and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.” We must not think that by parroting God’s Word; by picking and choosing verses taken out of context or selectively interpreting them according to our pet theories that God will be fooled into giving us what we want. Not only our prayers but our lives must match His will.
This little book of prayer is not meant to be limiting. It’s simply my personal expression of worship - my attempt to learn how to pray the Scriptures. Read the Scripture passages. Meditate on them deeply. Let your character be formed by them. Then briefly glance over the prayers that I have prayed and if they suggest ways to pray God’s Word back to him – thank God. If they don’t seem to help – blame me. Use them if they’re helpful. Quickly deliver yourself from them if they are not.
My hope is simply that this little tool will help you in spending more time with the Master and that you will thereby gain more faith, more love and more works to offer Him in worship.

Elders
This section is a heavily modified rendition of the version written by Nancy Leigh DeMoss and published by Revive our Hearts. It has been adjusted to reflect our belief in the plurality of eldership and our Adonaic culture’s inclination to claim Yahweh’s various names as promises.
El Shaddai, God Almighty, we praise You for the leadership you have provided for us and pray they will make godly decisions. May each elder lead with a shepherd’s heart and always speak the truth in love. (Romans 12:6-8; Jeremiah 3:15)
As they preach and teach, may each elder be courageous in proclaiming Christ, and confident in their use of Your Word. We ask you Holy Spirit to help them preach with insight, transparency and humility. (Colossians 1:28; Ephesians 6:19)
Yahweh Melek, God our King, may our pastors love You with all their hearts, souls, minds, and strength. We pray that Your Spirit will work in their hearts in power and that they will value and follow biblical priorities. (Deuteronomy 6:5; Matthew 6:33)
Natsar ‘Adam, Watcher of Mankind, may our pastors cultivate strong character and uncompromising integrity. We pray that their testimony will be genuine, and that they will never do anything that they would need to hide from others. (1 Timothy 1:5, 3:7; Ephesians 6:10-12)
El Machseh, God our Refuge, in regards to their d’vekut, their personal walk with You, we ask that beyond sermon preparation, their souls and spirits will be nourished and strengthened in their quiet time with You. (Mark 1:35; 2 Timothy 2:15-16)
We ask Marom Elohim, High God, that our pastors will counsel and teach with discernment through the wise use of Scripture and faith in Your power to work. We pray that they will be protected from the effects of sinful or negative attitudes that they encounter as they counsel. (Malachi 2:7; James 1:5-6; John 17:15)
Keren Yeshua, Horn of Salvation, please protect our pastors’ marriages and keep them strong as models of Christ’s relationship with the Church. May they tenderly cherish and lead or submit to their spouses as appropriate, respecting and encouraging them all the while. (Eph. 5:23-33)
Yahweh Nasah, Forgiving God, please protect their spouses from bitterness when our church elders are criticized. We ask Ruach’ ha Kodesh, Holy Spirit, that You will enable their prayer and devotional life, helping them to be consistent, and that they will guard their minds and hearts. (Hebrews 12:15; Proverbs 4:23)
Olam Zerowa, Everlasting Arms, we pray for the pastors’ children; we ask especially that the pressures of the ministry will not discourage or embitter them. May they see godly leadership in the home, not based on fear of what others will think, but according to scriptural truth. (Ephesians 6:4; Colossians 3:20-21)
Yahweh Kadosh, Holy God, please protect the Beit Din, the elder board, from the evil plots of Satan. May they not be corrupted as they rub shoulders with the world in the course of ministry. (John 17:15; Isaiah 54:17; 2 Corinthians 2:11)

We ask El Ro’i, All Seeing God, that discernment in use of e-mails, the internet, and the media will be used. Guard their hearts concerning the use of free time. We pray that they will be morally pure and will wear the Your armor so that they will not fall into sexual temptation. (Romans 13:14; 1 Peter 1:16)
Please bring godly friends and encouragers to our pastors and their families, to strengthen them for the ministry and provide meaningful fellowship and times of rest. (Philippians 2:19-25)
Yahweh M’Kadesh, God Who makes us holy, may they be humble and authentic in their faith, neither given over to pride nor to hypocrisy. We pray that they will have pure motives and give You glory for every gain or victory. (Galatians 6:14)
Holy Spirit, guide them in making wise lifestyle choices in order to protect their health. We pray for times of relaxation and renewal to balance the stress of ministry. (Romans 12:1-2; James 3:1-2)

Government
Lord God we pray especially for Your appointed leaders – that they will not compromise Israel's security, and that they will carry out Your plans and purposes for Israel at this critical time. (1 Timothy 2:1-2)

We pray that that the nations which are wavering in their support of Israel be reminded of God’s hand in gathering His Chosen People, Israel. (1 Kings 18:21)

Hard busy day ahead
O Yahweh Melek, the eternal King, who divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning:
Drive far from my sister all wrong desires. Incline her heart to keep Your law, and guide her feet into the way of peace; that, having done Your will with cheerfulness while it was day, she may, when the night comes, rejoice to give You thanks.
Through Jesus our Christ and Lord and in His name we pray,
Amen.

In the name of YHVH M'kadesh (The LORD Who Makes Holy) we set you aside to go as Hashem’s messengers. Go in the strength you have and deliver those who have been shackled in chains of darkness. Is YHVH Nissi (the LORD our Banner) not with you?
May Elohim (Plural God) bless and keep you.
May El HaNe'eman (Faithful God) make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you.
May ‘Attiq Yomin (the Ancient One) lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.
May the peace of Yahweh Shalom (Yahweh of Peace), which passes all understanding, keep your heart and mind in the knowledge and love of El De'ot (the God Of Knowledge) and of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord;
May the blessing of Hashem (the Name), Elohay Elohim (God of Gods), the Great Counselor, and the Comforter, be upon you, and remain with you always.
May El Elyon (God Most High)be merciful to you and bless you.
May the grace of our Great Shepherd, and the love of God the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you, both now, and on into eternity.
May Almighty God, Adonai, Immanuel, and the Teacher bless you and keep you, now and forever.

Sick or Grieving
Merciful Father, Who has taught us in the holy Scriptures that You do not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men:
- Look with pity on the sorrows of Your servant for whom my prayers are offered.
- Remember him, O Lord, in mercy,
- nourish his soul with patience,
- comfort him with a sense of Your goodness,
- lift up Your countenance upon him,
- and give him peace;
Wisdom in decisions
Father, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and by whom the godly are enlightened in times of darkness:
Grant my sister, in all her doubts and uncertainties,
Grant my sister, in all her doubts and uncertainties,
- the grace to ask what you would have her do,
- that the Spirit of wisdom may save her from all false choices,
- that in your light she may see light,
- and in your straight path she may not stumble;
